Computers and modern gadgets

A long time ago, the thought occurred to me why they don’t combine speakers with portable batteries. After all, the idea is on the surface. However, we didn’t have to wait long and JBL made the dream come true in its JBL Charge gadget. Today we have in our hands the third version of this device, JBL Charge 3. It was shown last year at MWC, but it is still relevant today.

Specifications

  • Sound: stereo
  • Speaker power: 2×10 W
  • Power: battery
  • Frequency range: 65 - 20000 Hz
  • Number of AC bands: 1
  • Wide range speaker: 50 mm
  • Working time: 20 h
  • Inputs: linear (mini jack connector)
  • Interfaces: Bluetooth, USB Type A (for charging)
  • Features: waterproof housing
  • Dimensions: 213x89x87 mm

Equipment

JBL Charge 3 is sold in a healthy box. To be honest, you won’t even immediately think that this is a portable acoustic system. However, the dimensions of the speaker itself are smaller than the box in which it comes.

As soon as you open it, you'll know this is a party gadget. Some kind of disco is depicted here, the speaker itself is not visible, it is hidden from view by a dense and thick piece of foam rubber. However, to hell with the preludes, let's look at the equipment.

As you can see, the set here is very modest, one might say, gentlemanly. Included with the speaker itself - there it is, on the left, mint color - is a power adapter (orange for some reason), a pair of adapters for different countries, including Europe. And also a cable with a microUSB connector, which can be used to charge both the speaker and a smartphone, if you have such an interface, of course.

Appearance

JBL Charge 3 has several changes compared to the second version. Firstly, the sizes have become more significant. Secondly, a textile covering was added, this grille is actually fabric, not metal.

Previous versions were very scratched in a backpack, but this one is not afraid of such troubles. And thirdly, the buttons on the speaker have become more convex and are easy to find even by touch, in case you decide to listen to Led Zeppelin in complete darkness.

On the opposite side there is a very massive plug, under which the AUX, microUSB and USB connectors for charging the smartphone are hidden. And on the cover itself the name of the device is written. And this, by the way, is the only place where it is written. In addition, there is only a red JBL nameplate and a brand indication on the end-mounted passive speakers.

The secret of this plug is simple. It is needed to prevent water from getting inside. After all, this speaker is protected according to the IPX7 standard. This means that the gadget is not afraid of dust at all, and it can be immersed in water to a depth of 1 meter and for no more than 30 minutes.

No, seriously, you can just take the speaker with you when you go swimming in the river or sea. Of course, you don’t need to dive with it, and you won’t hear anything there. But throwing it on the mattress and sailing behind the buoys is a nice thing. There is no one around, only seagulls and fish, and you have the latest Gorillaz album playing, isn’t it wonderful?!

Possibilities

The main secret of JBL Charge 3 is hidden in the name. However, I have already spoken about him several times. In general, there is a 6000 mAh battery installed here, which can be used not only to power the speaker itself, but also to charge any external devices. Those that can be connected via USB, of course. The battery lasts for 20 hours of listening to music, but how long the device will charge the phone depends on the remaining charge and the connected gadget.

The sound is in perfect order here. Of course, HARMAN makes premium devices and the JBL brand is no exception. The frequency range in the new version of Charge has become from 65 Hz to 20 kHz. In addition, Bluetooth has been updated to version 4.1, which allows you to save battery power and improve the quality of the transmitted sound.

It's hard to find fault with anything in this column. It is as simple as possible, but that is its advantage. What else do you need on vacation other than a charged phone and good music? There are no special settings, no unnecessary accessories. Column, wire and adapter. Turn it on, connect it and listen. It's beauty.

9.3 Very comfortably

I love it when some ideas that are in the air are picked up by famous manufacturers and made into a convenient device (or service). JBL managed to make a multifunctional gadget that is really useful on the road or outdoors. Well, you always need charging, but the speaker will never be superfluous. It somewhat reminds me of a gadget for fishermen from the early 00s, which had a radio, a flashlight, a lighter and much more. Only Charge 3, of course, is relevant for current years. In general, the thing is very convenient. And it’s definitely worth the money (and the price of JBL Charge 3 is about 10 thousand rubles). Throw one of these in your car or backpack and you'll always have something to entertain your friends with.

Wearable electronics are increasingly filling the shelves of technology stores. Not so long ago, ordinary people could observe the emergence of such a gadget as a portable speaker. With its help, you can create a simplified analogue of a music center, absolutely not tied to an outlet or a specific place. Controlling the device is quite simple, but not everyone knows how and how much to charge a portable speaker.

In this article, we will look step by step at methods for replenishing the battery of a portable speaker, as well as the reasons for the lack of charge.

Portable speaker does not charge: reasons

First of all, I would like to dwell on the reasons why the device may not charge. These include:

  • Damage to the Micro-USB cable. Portable speakers use a cord that combines several outputs: Micro-USB, USB and 3.5 mm mini-jack. For this reason, one of the main wires can easily become bent or detached. As a result, current will not be transmitted through the cable and supplied to the device’s battery. To perform the test, just use another cord of a similar purpose - they are found in all modern chargers.
  • Damage to the Micro-USB input on the speaker. First of all, you should make sure that no foreign objects or dirt get there. You may need to bend one of the pins to make it fit better on the plug. If such manipulations do not help, then you will have to seek help from a technician or a service center under warranty.
  • The battery is damaged or has exceeded its service life. This reason is very easy to identify: when the cord is connected to a power source, the speaker works, but immediately after disconnecting it stops. This means that the built-in battery does not hold a charge and should be replaced. Depending on the design of the device, the battery may be removable or non-removable. In the first case, the replacement is easily carried out independently, in the second, you will need to contact a specialist.
  • In addition to the reasons listed, it is possible that the power controller or other internal element may fail.

How to charge a portable speaker

There are two main ways to replenish the battery capacity of a portable speaker. Let's look at each of them in more detail.

    Charging from another device

This is a standard method of recharging the battery, since most portable speakers do not come with a charger adapter. In this case, you will need to take a cord with three outputs and carry out the following manipulations:

Now all you have to do is wait for the process to complete, after which you need to disconnect the cable from the power source. It is not recommended to leave a charged speaker connected to the charger for a long time - this can speed up the process of battery wear.

How to charge a portable speaker from a power outlet

It's no secret that inexpensive portable speakers do not come with a charger unit - this reduces the final cost, but does not allow you to charge the device away from a PC or laptop. The solution will be to select a third-party power supply that will supply the required current to the battery. To find out the required parameters, you should look at the instructions and view the technical specifications page. If the battery is removable, then the required value can be found directly on it.

In most cases, the charger from your smartphone will do. The charging process is performed as follows:

All you have to do is wait until charging is complete and disconnect the power supply from the network.

In my review of the Mini-Pushka portable speaker, I wrote that everything is good, but I want something more powerful.
Said and done, I took a larger column for review.
Everything worked out as I expected.

Of course, I didn’t choose the first one I came across. The task was to find a powerful speaker with a capacious battery, support for TF cards and a Line-in input within $15. T2 best met these requirements. The speaker is available in four color options; I liked Army Green.
The parcel was sent by Dutch Post. Now I looked on the website to see how much delivery costs. After “free” delivery to Ali, the price is amazing - to Kazakhstan $12.30. However, do not forget that on other sites delivery is included in the price of the product. The parcel arrived in a month.
It was packed in a large postal box.
Inside, wrapped in bubble wrap, was a box with a speaker.
The box is quite large in size - length 225 mm, width 100 mm, height 76 mm.
High quality printing, thick cardboard

Inside, the speaker was secured with foam rubber spacers and was wrapped in a matte soft film.

Included was a Micro USB – USB+ minijack 3.5 mm cable

And user manual

When you take the speaker in your hand for the first time, you understand that it is not so portable.
Device length 180 mm, diameter 65 mm. Weight about 370 g.

The appearance is extremely ascetic: a green cylinder with a loop.
You can attach a frail complete carabiner to the loop. You can find a stronger carabiner. I'll tie a lanyard of brightly colored paracord.

Below the mounting bracket there is a control panel.
By the way, the speaker itself is made of soft touch plastic.

The buttons are marked with icons in the form of indentations.

The end of the speaker next to the mounting bracket is blank; it shows the device’s power parameters and battery capacity indicators.

There is a flashlight on the opposite end.

The “glass” of the flashlight is plastic. LED with a speck. In short, as long as it was done.
Around the flashlight there is a sticky silicone ring, already familiar from the Mini-Cannon. Taught by experience, I did not begin to rip off the film from it. Judging by the ring, this is the bottom of the column, but if we glue the column to something, where will the flashlight shine? It's strange, all of this.
Next to this end, on the side, there is a plug.
Moreover, at first I didn’t notice it, it fit so tightly.
After a few days of use, the gaps have widened slightly.

Hidden under the flap is a slot for a TF card and a micro USB connector, which serves both for charging the speaker and as a Line-In input. There is also a small hole for reloading the column.

The entire side surface except the control panel is covered with a metal mesh.
Just below the panel there are 2 speakers on a rubber suspension.

Next comes just a smooth surface.

And on the side opposite from the speakers, an oval recess with a rectangular insert in the middle, measuring approximately 2 by 10 cm, shines through the mesh.
Apparently, this is a resonator. There is also a rectangular hole on the mesh itself. Looks like it's for a brand nameplate.

The speaker is turned on by long pressing the button with the corresponding icon and the letter M. And it immediately speaks English in the voice of a Chinese girl. If there is a TF card in the column, then the Music mode is turned on by default, at a volume of approximately 60-70%. That is, the speaker first shouts at you in English, then turns up the music louder. Not for the faint of heart.
If a memory card is not installed, the speaker turns on in Bluetooth mode. Here you can only hear the phrase in English.
Having dealt with these points, I discharged the column until it turned off. When the charge level is low, the column says that the battery is low and needs to be charged.
Well, let's fulfill the requirements.
First, I tried connecting the speaker with an Orico cord to the two-amp port of the charger of the same name.
The column started at 0.86 A (slightly less in the photo).

Charged in 2 hours 45 minutes.
The next day I remembered about the included cord.
This time the charge began with a current of 0.46 A (again I didn’t have time with the photo).

This time I charged for 4 hours and 20 minutes. So, use branded chargers and cables if you want to save time.
Let's move on to a description of the operating modes.
For convenience, I will add a photo with buttons.

The buttons, like most speakers without a display, are multifunctional.
The device is turned on and off by long pressing the first button M. A short press switches modes.
The most important mode for me is Music. This is playback from a memory card. The manufacturer promises support for cards up to 32 GB. I tested it on 8 Gb, FAT32 file system.
I already wrote about the default volume. The volume itself is adjusted by long pressing the + and - buttons. Short presses switch tracks. The speaker remembers the track number on which playback stopped. It doesn’t remember the position; in the case of long tracks, this is unpleasant, since there is no rewind. Plays tracks from the card based on the time the music was uploaded to it. There is no random play mode.
At full volume in Music mode, the speaker was able to work for 9 hours 15 minutes.
Let's move on to Bluetooth mode. Once you select this mode, the blue indicator diode on the speaker begins to blink rapidly.
The diode is not too bright, just right.

The speaker was easily identified by the smartphone and tablet as a T2 device.
At a distance of 10 m, the signal is received well, but it penetrates poorly through 2 concrete walls.
You can control playback of tracks and buttons on the speaker. The volume can also be adjusted on both the device and the speaker.
In Bluetooth mode, the speaker played music from the tablet at a sufficient volume for
9 hours 32 minutes
Unfortunately, there is an unpleasant effect of the device falling asleep. I watched the series on my tablet and then went away for 20 minutes. When I returned, the speaker fell asleep and did not turn on. Turning off the signal source – the tablet – helped.
Next to the buttons on the control panel there is a microphone hole. In Bluetooth mode, you can talk on the phone through the speaker. I tried it, it sounds fine.
The next function is Radio.
It is better to connect any micro USB cable as an antenna. Auto search is activated by long pressing the Play button. The speaker did not pick up all stations. But it reproduced the tuned ones quite cleanly. Switch stations by short pressing + and -.
What surprised me was that the next time I was able to listen to some stations without an antenna connected.
The Line In function works if you select the appropriate mode and connect the cord to the 3.5 jack of an external signal source. I didn't really like the sound quality. Plays quieter than from a memory card.
Well, the last function is a flashlight. It is turned on by the corresponding button, only when the column is turned on. Imagine you need to shine a light somewhere at night. You turn on the speaker, a Chinese girl yells at you, then music from the memory card, and only then can you use the flashlight.
It shines frankly weakly. But it's enough for minimal needs. The light is scattered.

Out of curiosity, I decided to check how long the flashlight could shine on one battery charge. I thought that if the music was screaming at full volume for 9 hours, then the flashlight would last a day. But he only worked for 8 hours :(
Let's move on to the most important thing - the sound. Here I got what I wanted. The sound is louder and more powerful than the Mini Gun. Upper and mid frequencies are present in full. There is bass thanks to the resonator. But not particularly deep. I listened to test recordings, there is no sub-bass. But apparently, you shouldn’t look for them in budget models of portable acoustics.
And so, I never heard wheezing or other signs of overload. But sometimes I lacked volume or bass. That is, the speaker depends on the recording source; not everything sounds perfect on it.
But still, I am satisfied - the task is completed, the speaker plays longer, bassier and louder than the previous copy, Mini-Cannon.
On the other hand, this is not surprising, given the difference in size by about 4 times.

The attentive reader is probably wondering, “Where are the tests for the resistance of this outdoor speaker to external influences?” But the fact is that I don’t consider it a speaker ready for extreme sports.
The metal mesh can easily be dented by any impact. And also water through the mesh can easily get to the speakers. So, in my opinion, the speaker is indoor, and its outdoor name will be left to the manufacturer’s conscience.
Let's summarize.
The disadvantages include loud screams in English, not very convenient controls, a weak flashlight, glitches with freezing in Bluetooth mode.
Well, the advantages of the speaker are good workmanship, a fairly long operating time, loud and bass sound, and work with different signal sources.
I liked the T2, and if I’m going to change it for anything, it will be for a model with a screen and more convenient controls.
That's all.
Thank you for your attention.

FAQ. FAQ.

angel music speakers

1. How to properly charge angel music speakers?

If you bought a speaker and turn it on for the first time, we recommend that you first completely discharge it, and then do a couple of cycles: full charge - full discharge. It is advisable to do this every 2-3 months. Never leave a completely discharged battery. A partially charged battery is better than a fully charged one. It is not necessary to fully charge the battery the first time - charging can be interrupted. Do not completely discharge the column, this reduces the number of charging cycles. It is better not to charge the battery at low and high temperatures (>50*C). The device has a charge control circuit, so the speaker can be left connected to the charger relatively without fear.
Recommended charging parameters: charging current 1000mA, voltage 5 volts.

2. Why is it better to buy from you and not, for example, on ebay or other similar sites? They are cheaper than yours.

Great question. Indeed, if you order on such sites, it will be cheaper. But there are, in our opinion, significant disadvantages to this method of purchasing. Purchasing on foreign sites always involves some risk (lost package, damage, disappearance of the seller, etc.) - this is a payment for a lower price. I would like to note that if the product arrives defective or incomplete, then returning it is almost impossible or commensurate with the cost of the device. Also, do not forget about our valiant customs and Russian Post employees. And most importantly. With us you will become the owner of a speaker in a maximum of 2 days, and with them in a month or more. Choose! If you buy from us, you receive a one-year guarantee, and upon receipt, you can thoroughly check and feel everything.

Make the right choice!

3. What is the advantage of the “MUSIC ANGEL jh-md07” speaker over other similar speakers?

First of all, it's sound. Conventional speakers try to make the sound loud, but at the same time it becomes flat due to the predominance of mid frequencies. It is almost impossible to listen to it at high volume. The MUSIC ANGEL JH-MD07 column has a fundamental difference in sound production from more solid-looking speakers. This difference lies in the presence of an additional passive diffuser that resonates at low frequencies. Therefore, the output results in bass depth comparable to real adult speaker systems. And at the same time, it does not wheeze at all at full volume.

4. Why is it better to buy the JH-MD07 model in the MUSIC ANGEL line? The manufacturer of these speakers has many interesting models. Is not it?

The entire MUSIC ANGEL line can be roughly divided into two parts: mobile portable devices, and other devices that you can’t put in your pocket. The first group includes columns MD06, MD07, MD08. The fundamental difference between MD06 and MD07 is the presence of an FM radio. In radio mode, the device works for as long as possible, which is a huge advantage of this speaker. The MD08 model differs from the MD07 in the presence of a screen, which simplifies searching through folders, and a USB output. But all these advantages significantly affected the operating time of the built-in battery, reducing it by almost half or more. Therefore, the best, in terms of price/quality ratio, is the MD07 model, which we are pleased to present to you. Remember, the simpler, the more reliable.
