To tell you the truth, I liked the new MeMO Pad line even when it was announced at IFA 2014. Thin and light tablets with excellent screens, LTE support and a new ZenUI shell. All this was overshadowed only by the easily soiled glossy back.
The set is standard, nothing special can be said about it.
If you look at the front side of the tablet, then most of all it resembles ... a large Nokia Lumia. The same sharp edges and slightly rounded ends, the same strict design. Of course, the large upper and lower frames immediately catch the eye, and the side ones are also not very thin compared to modern flagships.
Behind the device most of all reminds me of a kind of wallet or business card holder. The glossy back looks like it's an opening part of the case, apparently because of this, the associations with the wallet appear. And since we're talking about the back panel, at the same time I'll note that it's mostly made of glossy plastic, it's slippery and easily soiled, so this material is one of the key drawbacks of the device.
On the front there is a front camera and a light sensor, and on the back there is a peephole of the main camera.
On the left side you can see the volume rocker and the power button, as well as the tray for a microSIM SIM card. The keys are made of rubberized plastic, they have a short soft press, they are comfortable to use. But there are certain claims to the tray. So, you can open it only with a branded paper clip, the same i-paper clip is great for him. In addition, it is not very clear on the tray which side to put the SIM card in, I somehow mistakenly installed it on the wrong side and barely pulled it out.
Stereo speakers and microUSB and 3.5 mm headphone jacks were installed on the upper and lower ends. The stereo speakers have a good clear sound (for a tablet), but the volume margin is small. So, in a quiet room, there are no complaints about them, but an attempt to watch a video using the speakers on the Russian Railways train was unsuccessful, the sound was barely audible.
As for assembly, I have no complaints. the tablet gives the impression of a monolithic device. There are no backlashes and gaps.
The dimensions and weight of MeMO Pad 7 can compete with most modern tablets. I was especially pleased with the thickness and weight of the novelty. Yes, they are, of course, larger than those of the same MediaPad X1, but the tablet still feels quite light in the hand.
Compared to iPad Mini Retina
In my opinion, FHD resolution is optimal for seven-inch devices. The picture at this resolution looks quite clear, while the load on the processor is not excessive. As for the MeMO Pad 7 screen, I have no complaints about it: excellent picture clarity, a high level of maximum brightness and a large range for its adjustment. So, the minimum value will be quite enough for reading in the dark.
But in the sun, the screen does not behave very well, apparently, there is no anti-reflective coating.
Traditionally for Asus devices, there are Splendid utilities for adjusting the screen temperature and Reading Mode, which makes the white color softer for less eye strain.
Also on w3bsit3-dns.com I read about the problem with “dynamic brightness”, according to members of the forum, when watching videos or photos at minimum brightness, its value changes depending on the colors of the picture - with dark colors, the brightness is less, with light colors - more. I specifically checked for this problem on my sample and didn't find it. So, if you are faced with a similar situation, then this is apparently a marriage and you should contact the service center.
The device is running Android 4.4.2 and proprietary shell ZenUI. I really like how Asus upgraded its shell, it can be safely called one of the pluses of the tablet. I had a separate material devoted to this shell, those who wish to get acquainted with it in more detail can follow the link below.
To begin with, I will note the daily operation of the device. As for scrolling desktops, scrolling through menus, settings, operation of the built-in browser, there are no complaints about the device. But when using a proprietary keyboard, it is noticeable that the text is typed with slowdowns, but this is a problem of the keyboard itself, and not the tablet as a whole.
In my engineering sample, the installation of benchmarks was blocked, so I asked the owners of the tablet to "help" me. I express my deep gratitude to the user from the w3bsit3-dns.com forum with the nickname valium527 for the provided screenshots.
According to rumors, the new PowerVR G6430 video accelerator should work at the level of Adreno 330 from Qualcomm, my experience shows that this statement is close to the truth. In any case, all the powerful games that I ran on the MeMO Pad 7 ran without lags, however, in the same Asphalt 8, the game did not allow you to select the maximum settings.
I've used this tablet on the road to watch videos and I can say that it has excellent battery life. On a day, depending on the route, I watched videos from MeMO Pad 7 from three to six hours a day. In this mode (with the mobile Internet turned on and synchronization turned on), he lived for one or two days.
This is one of the first tablets with an Intel chipset to support our LTE frequencies. And this support works perfectly, in Moscow and other cities I used our 4G networks without any problems.
In retail, the tablet will be sold in two versions - Wi-Fi 16 GB and Wi-Fi + LTE 16 GB. The cost of the Wi-Fi version is 10,000 rubles, Wi-Fi+LTE - 13,000 rubles. For the money, you get a thin and light tablet with a great screen, LTE support, a fast and comfortable shell, and good battery life. Of the key shortcomings, I will only note the branded back cover, however, Asus has released several branded covers that level this problem.
Among the competitors, I see two models. Firstly, this is the Nexus 7 2013. This device is slightly thicker, it lacks a slot for a memory card, but it gets the latest version of Android faster than anyone else, in connection with the release of Android 5.0, this is especially true.
Another competitor is Huawei MediaPad X1. This tablet is thinner, lighter, has a cool aluminum chassis and is similarly priced. It loses only by the quality of the screen, according to my impressions, the display of the MeMO Pad 7 is still better.
While the MeMO Pad 7 has two strong competitors, I think it performs well in direct comparison. But what to choose from these three models, you will have to decide. If you need actual updates - look towards Nexus 7 2013, if you want a comfortable shell, a high-quality display and support for memory cards - pay attention to MeMO Pad 7, and those who want to buy a compact tablet in an aluminum case can safely take MediaPad X1.

We recently published an article and a video "". Our choice caused a wave of criticism: all things are quite expensive, not suitable for everyone, and the choice can be expanded. We will not argue with this, the choice can really be expanded many times by picking up gadgets suitable for everyone. But the article and video in this case will turn out to be infinitely large. Therefore, for a start, we decided to simply find an inexpensive, but convenient and fast tablet. As an experimental sample, it was chosen with a low price, relatively powerful characteristics and convenient operation, in particular for students. In our case, this is the model ME181C, what is important. But more on that later.
MeMO Pad 8 comes in a small cardboard box containing only the essentials: the tablet itself, a USB-MicroUSB cable for charging and synchronization, and a 100-240 volt power adapter, so you only need an adapter for a European plug to charge .
There are also a bunch of books inside with a description of the beginning of work, but who reads them?
The tablet itself is tall and narrow, making it comfortable to hold in one hand. In addition, it is lightweight, so you will not feel any feeling of heaviness. Holding a tablet in one hand and writing an outline with the other? As easy as pie!
On the front of the ASUS MeMO Pad is a 2 megapixel camera and the manufacturer's logo. The bezels at the top and bottom are relatively tall, but that doesn't get in the way and even helps when holding the tablet in landscape orientation. At least they are smaller than the same Nexus 7. But the side frames are 7 mm thick each. And this is neither good nor bad. With the overall size of the tablet, they do not look "too", quite standard. For the same Nexus 7, they are 11 mm, although the tablet itself is smaller. In general, there are no problems in front, everything is very even on the level.
On the top edge is a 3.5 mm mini-jack, a USB port for charging and synchronization, and a microphone. On the right edge is the power / lock button and the volume rocker. They are located at an angle, which, in general, is convenient. No matter how you use the tablet - in your hands, on a soft or hard surface - it will not be easy to accidentally press the buttons.
On the left edge there is only a microSD card slot, and it is open and dust will most likely clog there. The only way out is to close the slot by inserting a card purchased separately. In this case, dust will get inside less. There is only one excuse for ASUS - you need to save on something.
The lower edge is deprived of any buttons or connectors.
The back of MeMO Pad 8 is made of corrugated matte plastic, very pleasant to the touch. It is always a little cool, but not cold, like aluminum on the same iPad.
In the upper left part there is a 5 megapixel camera eye, a metallized ASUS logo a little lower in the center, and at the very bottom of the stereo speakers.
It's nice that the plastic is not pressed anywhere, there are no squeaks under any compression or twisting force. The assembly is just excellent, competitors can equal.
Specifications ASUS MeMO Pad 8 are as follows:
In general, the characteristics cannot be called top-end, but the price of the tablet is by no means high.
Recall that in our case, the ME181C model is on the test, but there is also the ME180A model. The difference between them is in the processor ( the latter has AMD E-series with a frequency of 1.6 GHz) and front camera ( ME180A has a 1.2 MP front camera). There is a difference in price, but more on that at the end.
At the same time, our copy did not slow down at all and we did not even think about the characteristics. Why think about them when everything works?
In AnTuTu, ASUS MeMO Pad 8 scores about 36500 points, which is quite worthy.
There are no problems with Wi-Fi either. At a distance of one meter from the router:
At a distance of 3 meters through a concrete wall:
At a distance of 45 meters through three concrete walls:
So Wi-Fi will work well in classrooms, no matter how far the university router is. But it is still better to choose places closer to the open doors.
With GPS and GLONASS, too, everything is fine. We conducted the test in very cloudy weather, it was raining, but we managed to find 10 satellites, the connection happened to 8 of them:
For all other parameters - sound, display, Bluetooth, accelerometer - there are no complaints. Everything works perfectly, which is even a little surprising when you think about the price.
Perhaps this is the most interesting part. ASUS began to use the proprietary Zen interface in new devices. Its important feature is that it hardly changes the classic look of Android. Of course, other colors, icons, buttons - all this is there and there is no getting away from it. But there are no "heaps", as some Korean manufacturers like to do.
All that is brought into the system is convenience. The settings remain standard for Android, but there are two important points to improve battery and screen performance.
Battery consumption can be slightly reduced by turning on the power saving mode. The settings, in general, are standard for all such modes: decrease the brightness, turn off wireless communication when the screen is off, turn off push notifications, and so on. Everything is like everyone else. But the main advantage is that each parameter can be very finely tuned “for yourself”. Moreover, you can create individual settings, depending on what you are doing: whether you are reading mail, an e-book, watching videos or listening to music, browsing websites or using Skype - you can set your own settings for each type of task. Comfortable? Incredible!
But the screen can be very finely tuned using the Splendid application. It allows you to very finely adjust the colors, temperature, brightness, tint and saturation of the screen.
True, by default, ASUS has already well-tuned colors and they do not require major changes. But if you like warmer or, conversely, colder shades, then Splendid will surely appeal to you.
As for applications, ASUS has installed a lot of them. Compared to other tablet manufacturers, the difference is that almost all of these apps are actually useful. Especially if we are talking about students who love not only (and often not even so much) to study, but to relax.
Brief memo- allows you to quickly create a note, and it supports both handwriting (no recognition), and using the keyboard. Pretty useful app and works very fast
Do It Later- as the name implies, this is a to-do planner. It’s easier for someone to use a calendar, someone will have enough memos, but Do It Later reminds you of the need to do a job that memos cannot do
super note- this is a more "serious" recording tool. You can write, draw, do anything, as if you have an ordinary paper notebook in front of you.
web storage- ASUS application for accessing proprietary cloud storage. Its advantages are that it supports MS Office documents and allows you to edit them anywhere. In addition, there is the possibility of sharing, which can also be convenient for group work.
And now the entertainment apps:
Amazon Kindle is a popular bookstore for every taste and budget. Mostly in English, which can also be useful and will definitely appeal to polyglots.
eMusic— electronic music store. One of dozens and maybe not the most popular and complete, but you can still have fun listening to music online.
Omlet chat- as the name implies, this is a chat. Something like Whats App, but when choosing between them, it is better to give preference to the latter.
Party Link- This application allows you to connect to nearby devices and transfer photos between them. Lots of laughs in the morning!
Story is an application designed to create stories from photos. Very simple and pleasant, we liked it.
Zinio- A kiosk for buying magazines. There is also the Russian press, and the prices are quite democratic.
We liked the ASUS MeMO Pad 8. And even very much! It's fast, easy, and most importantly, very inexpensive.
As we said at the beginning, our test model was a black ME181C with an Intel Atom processor. This tablet costs $175 on Amazon]]> . Want to save some money? Get the exact same white tablet and you can save $5. In Russia, the ME181C model is not for sale.
But in Russia, the ME180A model is sold, the one with an AMD processor and a worse front camera, and even with a glossy back cover. Its cost in Russia is 10,000 rubles. In the US, the ME180A only costs ]]> $157]]> . That is, the total difference in price will be approximately 4250 rubles.

Despite the fact that Asus has established itself quite well in the tablet PC segment, the manufacturer does not stop looking for new solutions to improve its products. So, one of the latest models is Asus MeMO Pad 7. This is an attractive and powerful device that can be purchased at an affordable price.
Asus MeMO Pad 7 is available to users in two versions, which differ in the amount of internal memory. So, buyers can choose the option of 8 or 16 GB. It is worth noting that both options are sold in the same configuration, which includes the following:
For those who want to further protect their Asus MeMO Pad 7, several branded cases are available. They can be purchased separately.
The Asus MeMO Pad 7 tablet has a 7-inch screen, traditional for such devices. With a fairly compact size, the weight of the device is 295 grams. It looks much sleeker and smaller than previous tablet models from this manufacturer. To achieve this, the manufacturer decided to reduce the size of the frames to the maximum possible, so that this does not affect usability.
Looking at the front side of the Asus MeMO Pad 7, above the screen you can see the peephole of the front camera (2 megapixels), and below - the corporate logo. The case is framed by a metal frame, which performs only a decorative function. The back panel is as concise as possible. It is made of matte plastic in several colors. At the top is a camera eye (5 megapixels), below it is the company logo. At the very bottom is a long speaker slot.
Having examined the edges of the Asus MeMO Pad hd 7 case, you can see that the bottom part is completely free from connectors. At the top is a headphone jack, USB cable, and a microphone. On the left side is a slot for a memory card. On the right you can find the power button as well as the volume rocker.
Speaking about the Asus MeMO Pad hd 7 screen, it is worth noting that it is equipped with an IPS matrix. The user can adjust the brightness of the image in the range of 10-265 cd/sq. m. It is proposed to do this exclusively manually, since there is no special sensor for automatic adjustment. The display supports up to 10 touches. This is important for those users who are fond of games. It is also worth noting that you can independently adjust the saturation and color rendering temperature. Thus, experts rate the screen quality as average.
The Asus MeMO Pad 7 tablet, unlike its predecessors, which worked on VIA and MediaTek processors, is equipped with a 4-core Intel chip. The frequency can range from 1.33 to 1.86 GHz. Built-in modules such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS are responsible for wireless communication. In video playback mode, battery life up to 10 hours can be provided.
Asus MeMO Pad 7 runs on Android 4.4. Ease of use is ensured thanks to the proprietary shell. The interface looks quite interesting and is easy to use. Compared to previous versions, the lock screen, menus and settings panel have been significantly redesigned. Service panel buttons can be changed according to user preferences.
On a positive note, all the programs you installed yourself are in a separate window. This greatly facilitates the work with the device. As for the pre-installed programs, these are mainly multimedia settings utilities, file managers and all sorts of ways to optimize the device.
Asus MeMO Pad 7 16Gb can be characterized by a number of additional advantages over other models. Among them are the following:
Many users have already appreciated the advantages of such a device as Asus MeMO Pad 7 me173x. Based on the reviews, it is worth noting the following advantages of the tablet:
Asus MeMO Pad 7 me375cl, despite all the undeniable advantages, is not without significant drawbacks. Based on user feedback, we can say the following:
If you need a handy and functional pocket computer, Asus MeMO Pad hd 7 me173x will be the perfect option for you. Thanks to its minimal dimensions, it is convenient to always carry it with you, and its elegant design will emphasize your style. Experts note the ideal ratio of high power, as well as operating time without recharging during the day. The device is suitable for both work and entertainment.
